Babina Noko draw at home

Sekhukhune United Football Club put on a brave effort to secure a point in a 1-1 draw at home to Golden Arrows at Emirates Airline Park on Saturday afternoon in the 2021/22 DStv Premiership match

Coming back from Polokwane without a point on their last DSTV league encounter   after losing with solitary goal against Baroka FC, Babina Noko had to dust themselves off.

The best opportunity in the first half fell to Nkanyiso Madonsela who made a solo run behind Abafana Bestende’s defence flashes long-ball short which goes wide across the bars.

The visitors controlled the tempo as they enjoyed more possession, but the hosts’ defence maintained its shape, depriving them of clear-cut chances.

Abafana Bes’thende got their opener 53 minutes into the second half after Michael Gumede who camein as a sub exploited a well-timed run and passed the ball into the back of the net.

Pogiso Mahlangu had an opportunity to get a goal for Babina Noko with 13 minutes remaining when he made a solo run into the visitors’ box but could not find a way past Sifiso Mlungwana’s hand.

Gumede went from hero to zero as he was fouled after tackling Pogiso Mahlangu inside the penalty area. Yusuf Maart stepped up to the spot and made no mistake in the 80th   minute to level matters on the day.

At the end, both teams had to share the points.

Babina Noko are in the 10th position in the DStv Premiership Log standings with 5 points. Sekhukhune United Football Club will return to DStv Premiership action next weekend and they will be on the road for the third time this season where they have a date against TS Galaxy FC at Mbombela Stadium on Saturday afternoon 15:30.
