Sekhukhune United F.C.

It ends in a stalemate

Sekhukhune United Football Club put on a brave effort to secure a point in a 1-1 draw at home to Maritzburg United FC at Emirates Airline Park on Wednesday afternoon in the 2021/22 DStv Premiership match

Coming back from mother city without a point on their last DSTV league encounter after losing 2-1 against Cape Town City, Babina Noko had to dust themselves off.

Babina Noko claimed an early lead through Rodrick Kabwes’ long-range shot squirming through the grasp of usually reliable goalkeeper Marcel Engelhardt before rolling tamely over the goal line for 1-0.

However, Kegan Ritchie leveled the game in the 43rd minute after receiving a ball from a knockdown and scored with a sliced half-volley from the edge of the box.

The match was locked at 1-1 at the interval, 86th minute into the second half Willard Katsande also warmed the palms of Engelhardt with a long-range effort and it was the last notable shot on target before the sides ultimately settled for a share of the spoils.

The result sees Babina Noko climb one position to eighth (8th) place with 29 points from 22 matches, while the team of choice remains 12th  with 22 points from the same number of matches.

Sekhukhune United Football Club will return to DStv Premiership action on the 2nd of April, where they will be visiting Stellenbosch FC. The Kick-off for this encounter will be at 15h00.
