Sekhukhune United’s match ends in a defeat at home

Sekhukhune United Football Club’s tenth DStv Premiership match at home ended in a  1 – 0 defeat to Cape Town City FC on Saturday afternoon at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium, Polokwane.

Babina Noko will feel rightly disappointed at the outcome of the game, having created enough chances to take something from the game. Sadly, the result spells an end to a good home record.

Fifteen minutes into the first half Chibuike Ohizu set up Victor Letsoalo inside the box but the ball was blocked. It was The visitor’s turn to test the home team, However, the home team’s defence remained resolute.

Nine minutes later Babina Noko threatened again, which saw Letsoalo’s effort well saved by The Citizens’ goalkeeper Daren Keet and this was the last clearcut chance at either end of the first half.

After a goalless first half, Babina Noko was in control for a sustained spell until the hour mark, when they suffered a setback through Cape Town City’s midfielder Thabo Nodada, whose long-range effort found the back of the net, to make it 0 -1 to the visitors.

Babina Noko offered little in response but had a chance to equalize in the 66th minute through defender Nyiko Mobbie who latched onto a loose ball in a good shooting position but failed to direct his effort.

There was nothing to celebrate from Babina Noko camp as they suffered their first DSTV premiership League defeat in 2023 at home.

The result drops Babina Noko up to seventh on the league standings with 27 points.

Both teams will return to action next weekend. The Citizens are away to Maritzburg United FC while Sekhukhune United will face off against Royal AM FC at Chatsworth Stadium,17H45.
