Sekhukhune United FC played to a 0 – 1 defeat at home against Swallows FC on Saturday evening in the DStv Premiership match at Emirates Airline Park, Johannesburg.
Fresh from a 4 – 0 victory at home to Baroka FC, Babina Noko was looking to inflict more pain on the visitors who were in the relegation zone.
Sekhukhune United FC head coach MacDonald Makhubedu came into the game with an unchanged squad from the side that thrashed Baroka, with Justin Shonga and Chibuike Ohizu leading the attack.
In the 24th minute, Babina Noko came close to breaking the deadlock from a set-piece, taken by Tshediso Patjie whose curling strike produced a wonderful reflex save from goalkeeper Thela Ngobeni.
Babina Noko saw most of the ball in the first half without reward. The host was awarded a free kick in a promising position, Patjie took a long shot but Maswaiswai‘s defence was solid.
The hosts kept on applying pressure to the visitors (Swallows) and Shonga had a chance to give them the lead ten minutes before the break with a header in the six-yard box that was saved by Thela and the sides remained deadlocked at half-time.
Babina Noko was punished in the 49th minute when the defence struggled to clear the ball and Musonda finished well, to help his team take the lead. Both teams had chances in the closing stages of the match with Nsabata pulling off a fabulous save to deny Ruzaigh Gamildien.
In the end, the game ended in a 1-0 win in favor of Swallows.
