Sekhukhune United Football Club proved to be too strong for the SAB Mpumalanga team Liver Brothers FC on Wednesday evening as they hammered them 6-0 at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane in the Nedbank Last 32 encounter.
Babina Noko started the game on a high note and the deadlock was broken by Rodrick Kabwe with a neat close-range finish that saw the host take the lead just after twelve minutes into the game to make it 1-0.
Bafana Ba Cheese tried to respond with a goal, but Babina Noko’s defense was rock-solid. The hosts managed to double their lead in the 36th minute when Daniel Cardoso beat his marker before scoring to make it 2-0 to Babina Noko.
The second half began with a high tempo, with the home team asking the most questions, Babina Noko was rewarded with a penalty, after Msindisi Khoza was adjudged to have handled the ball on the goal line, to receive a straight red card. The penalty was converted by Chibuike Ohizu, who made it 3 – 0 for the home team.
Bafana Ba cheese’s Goalkeeper Excellent Mkhoto made a blunder when he came out and kicked the ball which rebounded before hitting the upright, allowing Given Mashikinya to score with a simple tap nine minutes before the final whistle to make it 4-0 to Sekhukhune United. Another goal for Babina Noko came from Vusimuzi Mncube who beat Mkhonto with 5 minutes left to make it 5-0.
The game was sealed in the additional minutes when Tashreeq Morris registered the 6th goal for Babina Noko.
In the end, Babina Noko was able to secure a resounding victory and a clean sheet to advance to the last 16 of the Nedbank Cup for the first time.
