Sekhukhune United Football Club climbed to the third position in the DSTV Premiership Log standings with an emphatic 1-0 victory against Royal AM, to end their 8 games unbeaten run at the Ellis Park Stadium in Johannesburg on Saturday evening.
The result marched Babina Noko to their second successive win in the DSTV Premiership, which means Babina Noko has now won five of their last six league matches.
The hosts could have got an opener in the 23rd minute from Pogiso Mahlangu when he got an opportunity inside Royal AM ‘s box, tried to take a shot that went over the crossbar.
The was no sign of slowing down for both teams, but neither of the teams managed to get the chance for an opener.
The home side had their best chance in the first half when Nkanyiso Madonsela shot from close range which was narrowly wide. The first half came to an end with both teams still locked at 0-0, with the hosts dominating the first half.
Babina Noko continued to build pressure and were dominant in the visitors’ half, and were rewarded in a 50th minute with a goal from Edwin Gyimah, beating Patrick Nyame with a low shot inside the box.
In the dying minutes of the game, a free-kick was awarded to the visitors in a promising position and they made nothing from it.
The victory moved Sekhukhune up to a third spot on the DSTV league Log standings with 20 points from 11 games relegating Royal AM to 4th position with 18 points from the same number of games.
