Sekhukhune United FC were held by Chippa United to a 1-1 draw in the DStv Premiership fixture held at The New Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on Saturday afternoon.
Both sides started a bit slow early on, but improved with time, with Babina Noko slightly edging the ball possession stakes.
22nd minutes into the first half Vusimuzi Mncube found a way through The Chilli Boy’s defense when he sent a dangerous ball across the face of the goal but there was no one to connect, resulting in a corner kick.
Babina Noko caught the visitors’ defense napping in the 25th minute and took the lead courtesy of a pin point cross from Roderick Kabwe that was met by Chibuike Ohizu, as the striker guided the ball into the back of the net with an accurate header.
Three minutes later The Chilli Boys responded with a well-worked move inside the host half as Etiosa Ighodaro got his name on the scoresheet. Sekhukhune United and Chippa United went into the break a goal apiece.
10 minutes into the second half, it was the visitors that created the most notable goalscoring opportunity. However, the game slowed down towards the hour mark as both teams struggled to create clear goalscoring chances.
During the dying stages of the match, Sekhukhune United was awarded a penalty in the 92nd minute after the referee spotted a handball infringement inside the box.
In stepping up to the spot, Roderick Kabwe’s effort was saved by Stanley Nwabali. Sekhukhune and Chippa shared the spoils at the Peter Mokaba Stadium.
