Sekhukhune United Football Club will be well represented in various national teams this month during international FIFA week. Four of Babina Noko’s players received call-ups to join their national teams for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
Nyiko Sydney Mobbie, Toaster “Umshini we Sinkwa” Nsabata, Rodrick Kabwe, and Badra Ali Sangare received national team call-ups for South Africa, Zambia, and Ivory Coast respectively.
Mobbie has been called up by Bafana Bafana coach, Hugo Broos for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers to take place in Ivory Coast in 2024.
Bafana Bafana will face Liberia on Friday 24 March 2023 at Orlando Stadium; kick-off is scheduled for 18:00. The team will then travel to Monrovia to face the Liberians on Tuesday 28th March 2023 at Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Stadium.
South Africa is in Group K, which also includes Morocco, the fourth team Zimbabwe, is suspended from international tournaments and won’t participate in the qualifiers.
Nsabata and Kabwe have been called up by Zambia national team Head Coach Avram Grant in a 25-member squad for the back-to-back 2023 Group H Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Chipolopo plays Lesotho on Thursday 23 March at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola, Zambia and the return leg will be on Sunday 26th March at Dobsonville Stadium in Soweto. Chipolopolo is in Group H alongside Ivory Coast, Comoros, and Lesotho.
Sangare will represent Cote d’Ivoire in their Group H encounter against Comoros on Friday 24 March 2023 at Stade Bouaké and the return leg will be on Tuesday 28th at Stade Omnisports de Malouzini at 21:00.
Sekhukhune United FC Head Coach Brandon Truter revealed that “As the Head Coach I am excited about the call-ups. It shows that there’s something good that we are doing and that we have quality in our team”.
We also want the highest competition for our players to compete in, but my biggest worry is picking up injuries while they are on national duty. Lastly, I would like to wish them and their national teams the best of luck”.
