Hype and excitement as The Mayoral Soccer & Netball Tournament is launched

Fetakgomo Tubatse Local Municipality the Honorable Mayor Cllr. Eddie Maila, Kgoši Motodi Sekhukhune, and other leaders of the local sporting fraternity were part of the official launch of the Mayoral Soccer & Netball Tournament at Motodi Sports Complex on Saturday, 25 March 2023.

The event was graced by Sekhukhune United Football Club Captain Linda Mntambo, Brand Ambassador Willard Katsande, and the Marketing team.

At the launch Mayor Cllr. Maila said that the tournament would see the region’s top Soccer and Netball teams competing for top honors, individual awards to be honored include Man of the Match, top Goal Scorer, and Goalkeeper of the tournament.

With a total combined prize money of R100 000 the number of teams for this year’s event is 48 in total (32 Soccer teams and 16 Netball teams).

The winning teams will walk away with R40 000 (R30 000 Soccer + R10 000 Netball), a soccer kit, a trophy, and medals for all players. While other teams will receive soccer kits and balls.

According to Mayor Cllr. Maila a total of more than 90 players will take to the greens during the Mayor’s Cup from the end of this month, while the date for the final matches has not been confirmed yet.

Sekhukhune United Marketing Manager Mr. Tebogo Mapinga announced that Babina Noko will join hands with The Municipality in supporting the tournament and in identifying raw talent. As a home team, we are delighted to give back to our community.

During the duration of the tourney, pop-up soccer clinics will be available, which will be conducted by Sekhukhune United FC and other local teams from Limpopo this is done to unearth talent and give exposure to young soccer players.
