BABINA NOKO TAKE ON ‘THE TEAM OF CHOICE’ IN THEIR LEAGUE OPENER

The 2022/2023 DSTV Premiership fixtures get underway this weekend, Sekhukhune United FC will start the new season with confidence that it will build from last season’s 11th position finish in the inauguration season in the DSTV Premiership League.  Babina Noko will kick off their DSTV Premiership campaign against Maritzburg United FC this Saturday evening at Harry Gwala Stadium.

The boys will be looking to impress under the watchful eyes of the New Head Coach Kaitano Tembo as they look forward to finishing off at a respectable position at the end of the season. The team has made signings and completed their pre-season well in preparation for elite league football.

The technical team led by Mr. Tembo have been working very hard behind the scene to prepare for this season.

He confirmed that good additions were made to strengthen the team. They will try their level best to fight hard in order to maintain their PSL status. Tembo concluded that the new additions in the Babina Noko’s camp have acclimatized well to the new environment.

It will be the third competitive encounter between Babina Noko and the Team of Choice. Babina Noko managed to collect four (4) points from the Team of the Choice last season where they attained a victory of 2-0 courtesy of Chibuike Ohizu’s brace on the 17th and 31st minute in their first away league fixture of the 2021/22 DStv Premiership season and a 1-1 draw at home through an early lead by Rodrick Kabwe ’s long-range shot.

Babina Noko has strengthened the team by acquiring the services of the following players:

  8. Lesego Sebetlela- MM Platinum well known as La Masia
  9. Trésor Tshibwabwa Yamba Yamba- Red Arrows (Zambia)
  10. Wonderboy Makhubu – Baroka FC
  11. Badra Ali Sangaré- JDR Stars
  12. Katlego Mkhabela-, Free State Stars FC

Players to Watch

Victor Letsoalo 29 (Forward). He was born on 1 April 1993. He joins Babina Noko from Royal AM FC.  Letsoalo started his career with Baroka FC in 2017 before joining Bloemfontein Celtic. Letsoalo had a stellar 2021/22 season with “Thwihli Thwahla” as he scored 16 goals, a tally only bettered by Mamelodi Sundowns Peter Shalulile.

He made his debut for the South Africa national soccer team on 13 July 2021 in a 2021 COSAFA Cup game against Lesotho and scored a hat-trick in a 4–0 victory, becoming the first Bafana Bafana player to score three times on his national team debut.

Linda Mntambo (33), will captain the club for the 2022/23 season. Mntambo joined Sekhukhune from Orlando Pirates in June and is one of the more experienced players in the squad. The 33-year-old midfielder was part of the Pirates squad that lifted the 2020/21 MTN Cup. Started his football career with Roses United.  After a season with them, he joined Jomo Cosmos. Mntambo spent 5 seasons with Ezenkosi, later joining Chippa United and Orlando Pirates respectively. He has one cap for the Senior national team.

Lesego Sebetlela 23 (centre back). “Mish” was born in Dobsonville, Soweto. He joins the club from MM Platinum well known as La Masia who were promoted to the Motsepe Foundation Championship for the 2022/2023 season (Formerly GladAfrica Championship). He was crowned the player of the tournament during the ABC Motsepe League Play-offs that was recently played in Potchefstroom.

Trésor Tshibwabwa Yamba Yamba (23) is a defender from the Democratic Republic of Congo and was playing in Zambia’s topflight side Red Arrows.
