Sekhukhune United Football Club stumbled in Tshwane and suffered a 2-0 loss at the hands of Mamelodi Sundowns at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Saturday afternoon in the 2022/23 DStv Premiership season.
Babina Noko went into the clash in high confidence after four consecutive DStv Premiership victories. It was a fiercely contested first half, with good scoring opportunities from both teams and players showcasing exciting football to the wonderful crowd in attendance. Neither team failed to convert their chances, so the game went into the break deadlocked.
The second half commenced with the host on the front foot and were rewarded shortly with a goal from Peter Shalulile.
In search of the equalizer, the visitors pressed the hosts in their half, which resulted in close-range chances. Vusimuzi Mncube had a chance on his own when he forced Dennis Onyango into a good save with a powerful drive from range in the 66th minute.
An opportunity for Babina Noko arrived when Masandawana were reduced to ten men 13 minutes before the final whistle after Marcelo Allende was sent off following a dangerous tackle on Victor Letsoalo. However, the men in red failed to capitalize on the opportunity, and the result was confirmed when Cassius Mailula finished from close range to double the scoreline.
Failure to collect points drops Babina Noko to 6th position in the DSTV Premiership League Log standings with 24 points from 18 games. Masandawana has now pulled twenty-one points clear at the top with 52 points from 20 games and has further extended their unbeaten run to 14 games.
Sekhukhune United Football Club will travel to the North West in the next DStv Premiership assignment against Marumo Gallants at Royal Bafokeng Stadium, Saturday evening, Kick-off is set for 20:00.
