Sekhukhune Secure First DSTV premiership league Win at the New Home

Sekhukhune United FC displayed great character in their first home league fixture of the 2022/23 season, claiming a 1-0 victory over Lamontville Golden Arrows at New Peter Mokaba Stadium, Polokwane on Wednesday evening. It was Sekhukhune United’s first victory in the 2022/23 DSTV Premier League season.

There was no sign of slowing down for Babina Noko in the 1st half with Elias Mokwana and Tshegofatso Mabasa combining well down to trouble Golden Arrows’ defense.

With Abafana Bes’thende pushing for an opener, Daniel Cardoso was at his best intercepting all dangerous balls in the Babina Noko’s box. Neat build-up plays in the right allowed Rodrick Kabwe to deliver a whipped cross in the Arrows box but it was saved by Nkosingiphile Gumede.

In the 45th minute of the game, Tashreeq Morris’s close-range finish from Victor Letsoalo’s cross put Babina Noko ahead on the stroke of half-time.

Arrows did manage to carve out Babina Noko’s defense in the second half of the game as Thabani Zuke latched onto a pass from Pule Mmodi just outside the box before unleashing a curling strike that forced Toaster Nsabatha into a save.

Babina Noko controlled the tempo as they enjoyed more possession, but the visitor’s defence maintained its shape, depriving them of clear-cut chances

In the end, Babina Noko was able to secure a clean sheet victory together with the first maximum points in the 2022/23 season.

The result moved Babina Noko up to fifth on the league standings with 4 points, while Lamontville Golden Arrows are at the bottom of the log with zero points.

Both teams will return to action next weekend with Abafana Bes’thende away to Marumo Gallants while Sekhukhune United will face off against Newly promoted Richards Bay FC at King Zwelithini Stadium, Durban on Saturday evening 17:30

XI: Nsabata, Mahlangu (Mobbie46’), Kabwe, Cardoso, Gyimah, Mntambo, Ntiya-Ntiya (Farmer 72’), Mokwana, Mabasa (Motsepe 87’), Letsoalo, Morris (46’Madonsela)
