Sekhukhune United cut Richards Bay’s lead at the top

Sekhukhune United FC were victorious on their return to the GladAfrica Championship league football, after beating Free State Stars (1-0) on Sunday at Makhulong to close the lead at the top.

It was their first home league game since mid-February, after the 2020-21 GladAfrica Championship action resumes being back from a short recess to accommodate the next round of the Nedbank Cup. Babina Noko were looking to secure a win so that they can to close the lead at the top of the log.

Sekhukhune United FC were facing Free State Stars in the second round of the GladAfrica Championship the last time this two-side met was on Saturday (16/01/2021) at Goble park, Two second-half goals from Yusuf Maart and Prince Nxumalo inspired Sekhukhune to a 2-1 win over Free State Stars at Goble park

The hosts were quick off the blocks, trying their best to put pressure to the visitors searching for that first goal at home but Ella Koto defence was quick to scramble back and snuff out the danger.

It was a great start for both team in the first round as they were attacking looking to create scoring chances

Free State Stars almost inadvertly restores their hope in the 48th minutes as their short hits the pole and bounce back to play.

Just after the break, Sibanyoni forced a good short from Ea Lla Koto’s keeper Bonface Zoe when he volleyed a looping ball from point-blank range on target

Meanwhile Babiba Noko keeper Tapuwa Kapini was also tested, pulling off great saves to deny Paulus Masehe, and later Fadel Suanon from close range

Despite being under pressure, the visitors showed great determination towards the end, inducing a couple of nervy moments.

Siyabulela Shai scooped the Man of the Match award after his excellent performance that helped the team to clinch all three points

Babina Noko deserved all three points although Ea Lla Koto was unlucky after twice hitting the woodwork.

However, the hosts continued to control proceedings, eventually securing three crucial points manage to move to within a point of GladAfrica Championship leaders Richards Bay FC in the standings.
