Sekhukhune United Football Club made it three consecutive DStv Premiership wins with a 0 – 1 victory over Stellenbosch FC at Danie Craven Stadium on Saturday evening to register their second away victory in the 2022/23 season. It was an identical score line to the previous outing in the league against Kaizer Chiefs.
This victory moved Babina Noko up to seventh position on the league standings with 21 points from 16 games while Stellies dropped to 13th place.
Babina Noko started the game on the front foot and hit the target in the 15th minute through a powerful low drive from Vusimuzi Mncube, who forced Stellies’s goalkeeper Stephens Sage into a good save.
Both teams showed a lot of attacking intent from the onset and there were chances galore at either end of the pitch in the first half.
Babina Noko managed to find an opener in the 34th minute through Chibuike Ohizu‘s shot on goal.
In the second half, Babina Noko looked more hungrier and were impressive in their ball retention, maintaining possession for a big chunk of the first five minutes, Rodrick Kabwe created a chance with a low cross inside the box which found Sammy Seabi but he was flagged offside.
The visitors were looking to inflict more pain on the hosts, who played a draw in their last match.
The visitors controlled the tempo as they enjoyed more possession, but the hosts’ defence maintained its shape, depriving them of clear-cut chances.
The Ivory Coast Goalkeeper Badra Ali Sangare shot-stopper who was chosen as the man of the match in the last encounter had to be at his best once again in stoppage-time to keep out the host penalty as the visitors ultimately held on for all three points.
